Experience beauty and art in a Kyomachiya
One step inside Kyo no Ondokoro MARUTAMACHI, and you will be greeted by a double-height ceiling that is characteristic of Kyomachiya architecture, accentuated with a large, spherical paper lantern.
Inside is a relaxing space produced by “ TORAFU ARCHITECTS ”. The second floor lounge area is particularly notable with multiple round lanterns in different sizes and sofas reminiscent of Kyoto rock gardens that add to the unique atmosphere. The sofas are delightfully round and firm, and can be rearranged freely. Sit on them…lie down on them…whatever is the most comfortable for you to enjoy a good heart-to-heart before going to bed.
The exquisitely warm wood grain chairs in the cafe space and the bar stools that are as functional as they are beautiful are all designed by the furniture maker “ Karimoku ”.
A kitchen and dining area that adds joy to cooking and eating
The eye-catching kitchen island is large enough for four people to sit around while cooking, with a wide synthetic marble countertop ideal for making homemade bread or pasta. The full kitchen allows for proper cooking with a refrigerator and freezer, a stove with three induction burners, a grill, a convection microwave oven, a toaster, and a rice cooker. Cooking utensils, dishes, and cutlery designed with beauty and function in mind are also provided for visitor use.
Since good water is such an essential ingredient in cooking and making tea, the kitchen comes equipped with a “ Cleansui* “ water purifier to fully bring out the flavor of rice, broth, tea, and coffee.
Once the food is ready, head over to the Japanese-style dining room with a recessed floor for comfortable seating. Enjoy moments of satisfaction accompanied by a painting that explores "the manifestations of color" by Shiho Ueda and a sunlit garden that changes its countenance by the hour.
